Mumbai: India’s plastics industry is gearing up for a major global push, setting an ambitious target to increase exports of finished plastic products four-fold in the coming years. Backed by over 94,000 MSME units and providing employment to nearly 9 million people, the sector is positioning itself as a key driver of India’s manufacturing growth.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India, Make for the World,” the All India Plastics Manufacturers Association is spearheading strategic efforts to transform India into a global hub for plastic products.
A major step in this direction is the upcoming Plastivision India 2026, scheduled from March 23 to 26 at the Jio World Convention Centre. The event is expected to serve as a crucial platform connecting Indian manufacturers with international buyers, boosting trade opportunities and global partnerships.
Industry leaders emphasize that the initiative goes beyond business expansion. AIPMA Governing Council Chairman Arvind Mehta stated that the mission aims to establish India as a global center for finished plastic goods. Currently, India’s plastic exports stand at approximately $12.5 billion, accounting for nearly 1% of global market share—leaving significant room for growth.
Experts believe that with the right policy support, development of new polymer parks, and enhanced MSME production capacity, the sector could witness rapid expansion. AIPMA President Sunil Shah highlighted that the growth strategy would empower lakhs of small and medium enterprises while generating large-scale employment.
The event is expected to attract around 200 international buyers, further strengthening India’s position as a reliable sourcing hub. With increasing global demand and a strong domestic manufacturing base, the plastics industry is poised to play a pivotal role in boosting exports and reinforcing India’s standing in global trade.
As India accelerates its manufacturing ambitions, the plastics sector is emerging as a key pillar—combining innovation, scale, and sustainability to drive the country’s next phase of economic growth.
